ACReSAL overhauls 3 lined ministries in Plateau State 

 

    As part of its Projects’ mandate in responding to environmental protection issues, the Plateau State Office of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL), has embarked on a renovation in three major ACReSAL related Ministries.

    Some of the benefitting Ministries of this  facelift for the first batch included:  the Ministry for Environment, Climate Change and Solid Mineral Development; Ministry for Water Resources and Energy and the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources respectively.

     Responding to ACReSAL’s decision to embark on such project, the Plateau State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Mr. Garba Gowon Gonkol, disclosed that the Project was multi sectoral saying, “Component ‘C’ is one of the ACReSAL components which deals with Institutional Strengthening and Project Management.

     “So, when you saw the renovations going in those various Ministries, it is a genuine activities that World Bank has given us a clearance and a no objection to carry out because it observed that most of the Institutions are dilapidated and it was to feel the impact of ACReSAL.

        “When we pushed a request to the world Bank that, this is what we are experiencing in our State, they, without any delay, graciously granted us approval. That is why you are seeing renovations going on in most of these ACReSAL related Ministries”, he highlighted.

          Gonkol, added that the choice of the above mentioned ministries in the first phase of the renovation project, was because the Ministry of Environment was the coordinating Ministry, while that of Agriculture and Water Resources co-chaired the ACReSAL Project State Steering Committee were key.

           According to him, ACReSAL has carried out a total overhaul in the State Ministry of  Water Resources and Energy and the entire structure was going to wear a new look completely because of ACReSAL project work.

            However, the Project Coordinator disclosed that, they were also making plans to extend the ACReSAL interventions project to other key ministries who were ACReSAL related or connected.

            As at the time of filing this report, an aggressive work is going on in the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Solid Mineral Development, Water Resources and Energy and that of the Education in that order.
