Police rescues, arrests kidnapper from being lynched by angry mob

    Plateau State Command of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), has rescued and arrested one suspected kidnapper, Umar Adams, of Angwan-Rimi, who was almost lynched by angry mob in Jos-North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

     The State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, disclosed this while parading the suspect alongside other suspected culprits with various degrees of crimes at the press briefing, held at Police headquarters Jos, the State capital Friday.

     The Commissioner disclosed that, “at about 2:30pm July 27, 2024 while acting upon intelligence report received by the Command, our men at the Laranto Division rescued and arrested one Umar Adams, male, 27 years of Angwan Rimi while about to be lynched by an angry mob along Nepa-Rafin Gwaza village of Jos North LGA. 

    “In the course of investigation, we discovered that the suspect is responsible for the kidnap of one Hafsat Adamu, female, 5 years old and Umar Mohammed, male, 4 years old both children of one Rayyanu Mohamed, male of same address.

   “As a result of the beating he received from the angry mob, the suspect sustained serious injury on his head and was rushed to the Hospital for medical attention while the victims were rescued and handed over to their family unhurt”, he narrated 

     According to Adesina, some of the exhibits recovered in possession of the suspect includes; the cash sum of One Million, Four Hundred and Ninety Two Thousand Naira (N1,492,000.00) that was paid to him by the victim’s family as ransom.

    He said, the case was currently under investigation at the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

     Also paraded was one Alexander Kukeve, a suspected criminal arrested for criminal intimidation, attempted murder, kidnapping and extortion and threatening via voice call and SMS to kill one Ifeanyi Edwin, of Shendam LGA if the sum of three million naira (₦3,000,000) was paid to him. 

    The Commissioner revealed that, “upon receipt of the report, I directed the officer in Charged of Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) to mobilize his men and ensure that the person behind the phone call is tracked and arrested. 

    “We are happy to inform you today, that one Alexander Kukeve, male, 34 years old has been arrested in respect to a the kidnap attempt. During our interview with the suspect, he confessed to the crime. The case is still under investigation”, he noted. 

Adesina, therefore, appreciated the members of the press, Government of Plateau State and the good people Plateau State for the overwhelming support and collaboration given to the Command by  feeding the command with accurate, timely and useful information which has helped in their job of securing lives and properties.
