The Plateau State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE ), Comrade Arandong Yohanna Makwin, has congratulated Nigerian Workers on the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary celebration.
He gave the congratulatory message through a telephone interview with Journalists shortly after inaugurating 18 Branches of the Executive officers across the 17 Local Government Areas, saying, “though Nigerians, especially Local Government workers are passing through untold hardship, but their is hope for better nigeria.
“The financial autonomy granted to the local governments in Nigeria is what they’ve been struggling with over the years and I want to use this opportunity to commend President Tinubu for granting the local government authorities autonomy”, the President appreciated.
Makwin, recalled that NULGE has been working hard to improve the well-being of the workers salary to no avail, but the present government has given them the listening ears because they were the only tier of government that was closer to the grassroots.
According to him, the inauguration of the newly sworn-in LGs Executive went on successfully yesterday and we applauded them for taking the mantle of leadership towards contributing to the upliftment of Plateau State chapter.
Arandong, however, explained that the only challenges they encountered during the inauguration was that, they expected the exercise to begin with the state Chapter before the branches, hence what attracted uproar that was later settled amicably.
“As they insisted that the traditional way should be maintain as it used to be the practice, the branches should come before the state chapter. So we had a lot complaints leading to the delay for sometime”, he disclosed.
“During my first tenure in office, a lot of achievements were recorded. when the NULGE workers Salary was increased from 55% to 30,000 minimum wage, we were able to deal with the consequential adjustment which was very very insignificant”, he explained.
Yohanna Arandong, maintained that the progression of members to get promotion to GL 16 and Restoration of Domestic Servants as well as its immediate implementation for Officers on GL 15 &16 who were shortchanged for over 8 eight years was achieved.
Also restored during his tenure was the Hazard Allowance of Internal Auditors and the massive promotions and the immediate implementation.
