A public speaker and Civil Society Organisations’ Expert, Dr. Gad Peter Shamaki, has raised a demanding concern asking if the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS and other security personnel were still observing the old rule of engagement.
He threw the question recently, while delivering keynote address on the occasion marking National Value Charter Organized by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) at Sarau Event Centre, Jos, Plateau State Capital.

The CSOs Executive, observed that many religious and regional divisions have flooded the vision of a united Nigeria, making it difficult to forge a cohesive national identity.

This, in turn, he attested that it has weakened the moral foundation upon which the Country’s values built before now has forced young people to drop to an advanced fee for either yahoo yahoo, yahoo plus, or any other things that they thought made sense to them.

Shamaki, opined that, as a result of the relative value of weak moral models in the Nigeria’s life, corruption remained a persistent challenge in the periods for bribery, embezzlement, code-fying, and fraud in public and private sectors.

“What about the Nigeria Army, the Nigeria Police, the DSS and others? Can we finally say they reflect what we used to have as a people? And so, all of these institutions that are supposed to be ours have become for selected people.

“And therefore, the Nigeria project is not in existence in the ranch. And so, we must get back to the drawing board of the 80s and early 90s, when people finally say I’m Nigerian, I’m proud to be one”, he wondered.
Earlier, the Plateau State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs Kaneng Tabitha Pam-Hworo, disclosed that the Campaign was aimed at promoting awareness, understanding, and appreciation of vital clements of National identity.

She affirmed the fact that, the nation was passing through a lot of challenges created by citizens’ misdeeds and inactions as leaders and followers alike. This, according to the Director, had resulted in a systemic rot, occasioned by eroding of the cherished national values, thus giving rise to all forms of social vices.
She, however, reiterated that the National Anthem was more than just words or melody because it carried the spirit of our Nation, reminding them of the values, history and aspirations as a Nation.
