Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has encouraged Nigerians to shun get-rich-quick syndrome at play in the system and embrace integrity, hard work and opportunities provided by government.

He stated this recently, while addressing Journalists at press briefing organised by the Agency on the occasion marking the Nation-wide Flag Off of Sensitization Campaigns on the World HIV Day, Security Awareness, Get Rich Quick Syndrome, World Human Rights Day and the Tax Reform Bills, held at the Federal Secretariat Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The Director General, represented by the Plateau State Director NOA, Mrs Kaneng Tabitha Pam-Hworo, said government was aware of the erosion of the age long values and economic hardship often driving individuals toward unethical practices, but believed that there were better ways of addressing this.

He said, the Implementation of youth empowerment programs such as the National Social Investment Program (NSIP) and skill acquisition initiatives as well as supporting small and medium enterprises through grants and loans to promote entrepreneurship were major drivers to address this challenge.

Issa-Onillu, emphasised on the need to strengthen enforcement agencies like EFCC and ICPC to fight criminalized fraudulent practices, including internet fraud and financial crimes in the country.

“Citizens must reject shortcuts to wealth and embrace integrity, hard work, and the opportunities provided through government initiatives to make life better for citizens.
“In this Yuletide season, the tendency to resort to criminal ways to acquire ill gotten wealth so as to impress others is heightened.

“The NOA will in this month of December be carrying out nationwide sensitization against the get rich quick syndrome to encourage citizens to embrace integrity and hard work”, he reiterated.
The Director General, noted that commencing nationwide mobilization to unite Nigerians’ commitment to addressing pressing issues by fostering a more informed, secure and ethical society was the challenge before them that requires collective action and active participation from all Nigerians.
