The apex body of Ngwang Ishi Otarok Development Association (NIODA), has condemned in strong term the senseless and unprovoked attacks on Irigwe people of Gidan Ado and Arigeh Communities in Riyom and Bassa LGAs of Plateau State.
It has also called for the immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the attacks to serve as deterrent to those bent on causing this evil act.
This came in a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of NIODA Worldwide, Hon Nanbol Listick, on behalf of the National President, Ambassador Nanpon Danjuma Sheni, and made available to newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State Tuesday.



The statement states, “Ngwang Ishi Otarok Development Association (NIODA) Worldwide is shocked and deeply saddened by the senseless and unprovoked attacks on Irigwe people of Gidan Ado and Arigeh Communities of Riyom Local Government Area and Bassa Local Government Area respectfully on Sunday 22nd December, 2024 resulting to loss of numerous innocent lives.
“NIODA strongly condemns this heinous act of violence, which is a clear violation of human rights and fundamental dignity.
“NIODA appeals for: Immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible for these attacks; Provision of adequate support and compensation to the victims’ families; Implementation of effective measures to prevent such attacks in the future and Promotion of continuous intercommunity dialogue and reconciliation efforts”, it stated.
NIODA, however, expressed deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims in Riyom and Bassa LGAs as well as Plateau State Government and that, it stood in solidarity with the affected communities.

The association described the brutal attack as a stark reminder of the urgent need for increased efforts to promote peace, tolerance and understanding. It, therefore, called on authorities to take immediate and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such atrocities never happen again.
“We also urge community leaders, Civil Society Organizations and Government Officials at all levels to work together to address the root causes of this attacks and promote a culture of peace, inclusivity and respect for human life.
“NIODA stands together against violence. NIODA advocates for peace and development as well as the protection of human rights and in the promotion of peace and development”, they emphasised.
