Governor Caleb Mutfwang, of Plateau State has approved free transportation reliefs for people within the 70 and above years of age who have served the nation meritoriously.
He disclosed this Wednesday, while in an interview with Journalists at the occasion marking Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the JD Gomwalk Secretariat Jos, the State capital.
The Governor commended officers and men of the Armed Forces who have sacrificed and been in the forefront of securing the nation saying, “we must find a way to look after them in their old age.
“And therefore, this Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a platform and opportunity to remember those of them who have died and left families behind, as well as those who have retired and are battling with challenges of life.
“As a government, we will continue to look for ways and means of making sure that their conditions of living are better.
One of the things we did this year was to approve free transportation for the aged of 70 and above and we are looking at other ways of making sure that their needs are met”, he approved.
Mutfwang, further assured that they would continue to devote time, attention and resources to making sure that this became a possibility to help cushion living conditions of these great heroes.
He noted that, the armed forces have become a very important institution in modern times because people were living in the times of conflict and insecurity.
The Governor, however, reiterated the need for armed forces to continue to play the patriotic role they were assigned to play for the nation.
He, therefore, saluted the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their gallantry in trying to secure the nation, both internally and externally.
“we must continue to remember those who have served and retired, some have died and retired so, as a nation, we must pay respects to those who are aged, people who have served this nation meritoriously”, Mutfwang stressed.
