In a bid to place Plateau State above other States in open defecation free mapping, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has set March 21, 2025 for the launching of “Keep Plateau Clean, Use The Toilet Program” in the State.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti, disclosed this Thursday while on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman Gar, in Jos, the State capital.

The Commissioner who spoke through the State Coordinator of Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P), Jonathan Mallan, said they were in the ministry to seek for collaboration in order to see how they could ease the water hardship people faced in the States.
He disclosed that the United Nations have declared the 22nd of March each year as World Water Day and by the grace of God, they would be observing the World Water Day in Plateau State.

“Top among the activities mapped out for this year’s World Water Day is a launch of a program called “Keep Plateau Clean, Use the Toilet Campaign.
“So, we are hoping that on the 21st, which is a Friday, His Excellency will now launch the “Keep Plateau Clean, Use the Toilet Program.

“And each local government chairman will pledge commitment, because there is going to be a map of the state designated for each local government. So they will go and sign their portions as commitment”, he highlighted.
The Commissioner, however, noted that the signing of this commitment by Council Chairmen on their map portion would be a commitment to deliver each local government open defecation free.

Responding, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman Gar, described the action as a welcomed development and urged the Water Ministry to forward strategies that would help enlightened the local government in achieving open defecation free area.
He said, it was mandatory for them to key into the vision of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to achieve this, because he was a man of empathy and progress, hence the dire need for Plateau people to support his administration.
Gar, therefore, assured the Ministry for Water Resources and Energy of his readiness to partner with them to see within their reach and ensure that Plateau leads in open defecation free across the country.
