Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN), the highest decision making body of all the Indigenous Ethnic Nationalities Development Associations, has called on Nigerian communities to use the strength of their unity to fight terrorism in the country.

The National President of PIDAN, Ambassador Nanpon Danjuma Sheni,  made the call yesterday, while addressing Journalists at the world press conference, held at the NUJ State Headquarters Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The President observed with great pains that, the peaceful indigenous tribes of Plateau State have been subjected to acts of genocide by globally connected terrorist groups masquerading under ethnic identities.

He disclosed that, the groups were connected to global terrorist networks and have targeted their communities with violence, displacement and destruction, describing the act as devastating to education and agricultural sectors.

“If this crisis remains unchecked, its ramifications for Nigeria’s stability, security, and prosperity will be catastrophic. Our communities will continue to suffer; lives will be lost; cultural heritage will be obliterated; economic instability and poverty will rise; and the threat to regional and global security will escalate.

“In light of this urgent situation, we call on the international community, the Federal and state governments, and all stakeholders to acknowledge the gravity of the plight of Nigerians under this siege and take immediate actions to push back terrorism.

“It is, therefore, imperative for Nigerians to stem the tie of this monstrous “Excellency” criminality to save the Nigerian State. We demand that all Nigerian communities to close ranks and fight terrorism with the strength of our unity and passion to build a peaceful society”, Sheni advocated.

The President, further, demanded for the protection of Nigerian nation as well as Plateau State communities through the preservation of way of life, emphasising that justice for the victims of terrorism and genocide as promised by Mr. President should be accelerated by prosecutions of those arrested.

“I want to, on behalf of PIDAN, express our unwavering confidence in our governments and its institutions, urging all stakeholders to collaborate to address these critical issues.

“We pledge our support for the government and the security agencies in their efforts to combat terrorism and thereby fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in our great nation”, PIDAN assured.
