Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Council and Trade Union Council, have unanimously called for the immediate passage of the Bill for the establishment of State Police to help complement efforts of existing security agencies.

This was the position of the two unions in a press statement signed and read by the State Chairmen NLC, Comrade Eugene Manji and that of the TUC, Comrade Kenneth Shammah, at the conference hall of NLC State Secretariat Jos, the State capital.

The statement states, “we wish to recommend the steps to be taken by all concern to guarantee the protection of lives and properties in Nigeria especially those areas under constant attacks:

“The National Assembly should in National interest pass the bill on State Policing. This we believe will add to the efforts being made by other security agencies.

“The President and Commander –In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria, should make priority the visitation to all attacked communities as a means of re-assurance for peace.

“The strong theming of Local vigilantes in the country permitting them to carry protective arms to compliment the efforts of other security agencies”, it stated.

The two unions also called for the return of all displaced communities to their ancestral  Lands and security should be provided in such areas to guarantee their safety by prioritising usage of intelligence gathering.

They, therefore, charged that, all credible security  information received should be treated with pro-activeness in order to prevent any attack planned because information was always on public domains whenever an attack was to take place.

The NLC and TUC leaders insisted that, since the killers were no where prepared to stop killing, they  recommended for speedy trials of those arrested in special courts so as to deliver justice to the needy.

The Unions, therefore, called for the total ban on open grazing and adopt the more acceptable cattle ranching as a deliberate measure to bring these killings to a stop.
