Life follows cycles like the weather, know what season of life you are in and honour it.
Fight for the things you love, live your life with no regrets, think of yourself as an explorer, you cannot find anything new if you are unwilling to leave the shore.
Whether it’s the best of times or the worst of times, it’s the only time you’ve got. Who is untrue to his own cause cannot command the respect of others.
The Lord said “Fight the good fight of faith” Nothing can stop you but you if you believe!
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, of Plateau State has approved free transportation reliefs for people within the 70 and above years of age who have served the nation meritoriously.
He disclosed this Wednesday, while in an interview with Journalists at the occasion marking Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the JD Gomwalk Secretariat Jos, the State capital.
The Governor commended officers and men of the Armed Forces who have sacrificed and been in the forefront of securing the nation saying, “we must find a way to look after them in their old age.
“And therefore, this Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a platform and opportunity to remember those of them who have died and left families behind, as well as those who have retired and are battling with challenges of life.
“As a government, we will continue to look for ways and means of making sure that their conditions of living are better.
One of the things we did this year was to approve free transportation for the aged of 70 and above and we are looking at other ways of making sure that their needs are met”, he approved.
Mutfwang, further assured that they would continue to devote time, attention and resources to making sure that this became a possibility to help cushion living conditions of these great heroes.
He noted that, the armed forces have become a very important institution in modern times because people were living in the times of conflict and insecurity.
The Governor, however, reiterated the need for armed forces to continue to play the patriotic role they were assigned to play for the nation.
He, therefore, saluted the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their gallantry in trying to secure the nation, both internally and externally.
“we must continue to remember those who have served and retired, some have died and retired so, as a nation, we must pay respects to those who are aged, people who have served this nation meritoriously”, Mutfwang stressed.
IF you knew where the Gwom Rim, Da Gyang Dahoro, was coming from, you would deeply appreciate his character and the values he professed during his lifetime.
It is with profound sadness that we now refer to him in the past tense, knowing that the remarkable contributions he made to photojournalism and leadership will not be easily forgotten.
As we grieve his passing, we are reminded that life is a gift from God, Who gives and takes as He deems fit.
Da Dahoro’s career was illustrious, to say the least. At the peak of his professional life, he transitioned from THE NIGERIA STANDARD Newspapers to play a similar role in Lagos, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his craft.
During his active service, his expertise in photography was unmatched. He needed no directives; his instinctive approach always produced compelling visual stories.
Editors could rely on him to provide content that spoke volumes even before the accompanying stories were published.
His influence extended to those he mentored. A man of strong character and professionalism, Dahoro poured his heart into training others. His protégés attest to the instructive and meticulous tutelage he provided, leaving an indelible mark on their careers.
As the saying goes, the son of a lion does not grow to become a goat. Dahoro’s legacy is a testament to this. He held a deep commitment to THE NIGERIA STANDARD and was deeply perturbed by any criticisms of the paper, particularly from those who benefitted from the legacy of the visionary Joseph Dechi Gomwalk – founder of the newpapers.
His colleagues and associates deeply mourn his loss. Mr Matthew Kuju, Chairman of Plateau Publishing Corporation, PPC, Re-Union, described him as “a truly exceptional individual” in his tribute.
He added: “He was a shining example of commitment and excellence, always striving to deliver his best and fulfil his responsibilities with diligence and integrity. His love for his work was evident in everything he did, and his passion inspired those around him to strive for excellence. He was a true team player, always willing to lend a helping hand and support his colleagues in their endeavours. As we reflect on his life and legacy, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on the community. His selflessness, kindness, and generosity inspired countless individuals.”
This captures the very essence of Dahoro’s life and work. Having worked closely with him in Jos and Lagos, Kuju’s reflections carry significant weight.
Da Gyang Dahoro’s passion for photography was so profound that it occasionally overshadowed his role as a traditional ruler. It took concerted effort to convince him to put aside his camera during certain events.
He joined THE NIGERIA STANDARD stable on May 1, 1987, and left on June 1, 1994, for THE MERIDIAN magazine. After a stint with the Lagos-based publication, he returned to THE NIGERIA STANDARD on December 10, 2001.
They are well documented and incandescent. He became Gwom Rim during one of the most difficult periods of Plateau’s history, and particularly of Riyom where his community; amongst many other communities, have been subjected to sustained attacks for about two decades.
Thus, as we reflect on his life and legacy, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on the community. His selflessness, kindness, and generosity inspired countless individuals.

Whether you realize it or not, many people whom you meet are in desperate need of a smile, an act of kindness, or an encouraging word.
The world can be a difficult place and countless friends and family members may be troubled by the challenges of everyday life.
The best strategy is to try to encourage all people who cross your path. He who climbs highest helps another up.
One smile, can start a friendship. One word, can end a fight. One look can save a relationship. One person can change your whole life. The Lord guides…..
Rev. Wanson Yusufu Bagu, the Plateau State Executive Secretary, Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board
By Ezekiel Dontinna
The first batch of Plateau State intending Christians Pilgrims, have concluded arrangements from Jos to Abuja for holy pilgrimage to the land Israel and Jordan by tomorrow.
The Executive Secretary, Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rev. Wanson Yusufu Bagu, disclosed this shortly after the farewell ceremony of spill over 2024 to 2025 pilgrimage, held at the COCIN Headquarters Jos, Monday.
The Executive Secretary assured that, based on the conclusive arrangement now, they were so confident and sure that people that would be lifted for the first batch would be not less than 255 pilgrims.
While responding to questions fielded by Journalists on the safety of pilgrims in the face of Middle East crisis, he said, “it is obvious that in the Middle East there has been crisis for over years.
“It’s not a new phenomenon, but as per last year, if you were aware of our appropriation, we initially had the plan to leave our programs for Easter pilgrimage, which would have been taking place between April and June.
“But we suspended it because this insecurity there was very tense, and as per October, November, everything was becoming calm.We receive assurance that there are some measures that will curtail possible challenges, and that is why we quickly swing into action”, he explained.
Bagu, however, noted that no nation would want to risk its citizens and exposed them to great challenges of insecurity and that, the second trip has returned yesterday successfully.
The ES explained further that, the first trip was from Lagos last year, December 22nd and came back January 2nd as it was followed by FCT who came back yesterday Sunday, with some arriving in Nigeria today Monday saying, “Our own will also take off tomorrow. So the security there is minimal, it’s minimal”.
Reacting to the assurance given to the people of Plateau State by Governor about take off directly from Jos, the Executive Secretary said, “I feel very happy, very excited to hear this coming from his Excellency.
“I want to believe that in his capacity as a Governor, he cannot just make a public statement like this without having plans on ground to achieve them. It will look like embarrassing himself.
“So I’m so confident that he’s a working government. He will work it out and i’m so so happy. I will be the happiest person to be in the office to see that pilgrims are lifted on Plateau State”, he prayed.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, of Plateau State
Rev. Wanson Yusufu Bagu, therefore, called on the people to exercise patience because everybody has the potential to improve where he believed he has failed and as humans beings, they have observed the challenges.
“I want to tell the people of Plateau State that they should believe in us, believe in the government, and believe that we are capable to adjust to improve in order to serve them better”, he encouraged.
Prince Dan Bok, the Interim Chairman of Plateau Publishers Association (PPA)
Following an extraordinary Congress meeting of Plateau Publishers Association, PPA, held yesterday, Prince Daniel John Bok has been unanimously appointed to serve as interim Chairman of the association for a specified period in order to lead the Executive Committee saddled with the responsibility of conducting a fresh election of new officials and to carryout day-to-day running of PPA activities on behalf of the group.
The recent development within the ranks of PPA became necessary in view of the removal of its former embattled Chairman Chief Nanyah Daman, also known as ‘Enoch Shaks’, due to proven cases of abuse of office, acts of gross misconduct and constitutional breaches, levelled against him by the Executive Committee of the association and ratified by the Board of Trustees as well as Congress of the PPA.
The aforementioned action carried out through the collective resolve of all three organs of the group, which has been long overdue, began and ended after exhausting all measures outlined in the association’s Constitution, norms and practices, including a formal letter of petition made against the ousted Chairman, signed by 6 legally appointed EXCo members, a resolution by PPA Board of Trustees, an emergency Congress meeting held last Friday 10th January, 2025 which discussed and examined the petition leading to setting-up of a three-man committee to reach out to the embattled former chairman for his response on the disturbing cases of high-handedness, then report back it’s findings after 48 hours, all these cardinal steps prompted the jittery ex Chairman Nanyah Daman, to issue a statement that at best, is deemed dead-on-arrival, baseless, laughable and empty folk tales dished only through his social media handles or news mediums in the sacred social media, which all amount to work- done-zero, because such was all done in a bid to use the PPA as a means to gain access to Government offices, its officials, or attract undue gains to himself and his co- family travellers. The question begging for an answer is, when did a professional body like the PPA become an ethnic mouth piece or family affair?
For the avoidance of doubt, judging from 16 names paraded in his long epistle, 2 names represent the same person, 13 out of 16 individuals in his write up belong to a known ethnic group, while 12 others are his immediate family members still in post secondary school, serving as interns, as well as a known number working as civil servants under the pay-roll of the Plateau State Government.
For the authentic registered members and officials of the PPA under the leadership of the new visionary PPA Chairman, Prince Daniel John Bok, we remain one united, focused and ethical body of Publishers, Proprietors and owners of newspapers, News-magazines as well as social media blogs duly registered and recognized by relevant Government institutions.
Therefore, conscience imposes a duty on us to note that it is the end of the road for an individual who thrives on the PPA to deceive or intimidate the gullible for patronage in Plateau State and beyond! It still remains to be seen in the public domain, if Chief Nanyah Andrew Daman will respond to the well established grounds of petition against his official conduct below:
PETITION OF GROSS MISCONDUCT/ HIGH-HANDED-NESS OF PLATEAU PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION (PPA) CHAIRMAN. CHIEF AMB. NANYAH DAMAN. ALSO KNOWN AS ‘ENOCH SHAKS’, READS:
It has become pertinent for all concerned members of this noble Association to officially write and inform the Chairman and Board of Trustee members of our grievances over some acts of our chairman, Chief. Amb. Nanyah Daman that we deem as capable of not only tearing the Association apart but equals to discrediting the good image of the Association before all and sundry.
THE AFOREMENTIONED PETITION READS:
That the Chairman has vehemently refused to call for EXCO meeting since inauguration except for once or twice in 2 years.
That the chairman has unilaterally taken a sole decision to illegally excommunicate majority EXCO and members of PPA from our medium of communication – PPA Whatsapp platform.
That the means he used in this illegal removal of the said members is unconstitutional and ultra vires
That there are cases of lack of transparency and accountability leveled against him.
That he has high jacked all responsibilities and functions of PPA EXCO and runs it all by himself as a one man show as if it is a family business.
That he single handedly hand picks those he wants to cover assignments for which invitations are sent to PPA through him.
That he collects and refuses to remit proceeds/honorarium of some assignments, and disburses same at his discretion to only those he has chosen.
That he unilaterally admits new members without EXCO/Congress approval.
That he has refused to remit registration fees of new members to EXCO.
That we aware he has constituted an illegal EXCO using PPA letterhead and name of the Association to replace the constitutionally recognized ones.
That we jointly write this petition with the aim of correcting the wrongs and uniting members of the Association for development and progress.
That the members of the Association are journalists in their own right and are not employees of Chief Nanyah Daman whom he can hire and fire at will.
That Congress and BoT will follow all due process to institute disciplinary measures against Chief Daman and all other persons who aid and abet his actions, for gross misconduct and executive rascality.
Cc: The Chairman PPA Board of Trustees Cc: Secretary BOT Cc: Chairman PPA Cc: Secretary PPA.
THIS PETITION HAS BEEN SIGNED BY THE FOLLOWING EXCO MEMBERS.
NAME:
Daniel John Bok – Vice Chairman (now Chairman)
Sunwar Godfrey – Secretary
Solomon Gokas – PRO
Helen Bok – Treasurer
Philip Zhattau – Welfare Secretary
.Onjefu Odaudu – Assistant Secretary
However, it must be mentioned that, aware of his imminent collosal fate, Chief Nanyah Daman rushed to the media space with spurious, largely falsified statements accusing and attacking the authentic, duly registered, and responsible members of PPA with unverified and fabricated lies, rather than responding to the 13 – point petition and the weighty issues which informed the setting-up of a special 3- man committee to investigate or look into the matter which carried out the responsibility with utmost diligence after extending an invitation to the erstwhile Chairman, for his own response in line with the principle of fairness and justice, but such well intended effort got rebuffed despite evidence of phone calls, messages and other effort created for him to appear before the panel of inquiry or respond in writing which he declined for obvious reasons.
The Congress of the Plateau Publishers Association, PPA shall, therefore, not fold its arms or sit-on-the-fence by allowing one individual rail against the provisions of the same constitution which previously brought him into office as chairman alongside a 9-man EXCO.
The general public is called upon to ignore the the signatory and his watery disclaimer, on the other hand Chief Nanyah Andrew Daman is warned to desist from parading himself or the imaginary numbers listed in the social media space, and henceforth, refrain from making a mockery of the media profession as noble members of the pen profession are expected to exercise restraint by conducting themselves as a true reflection of the ‘fourth estate of the realm’ in the true sense of the phrase.
Consequently, the Plateau Publishers Association, PPA led by Prince Daniel John Bok’s visionary and people oriented leadership, is unperturbed by the rantings of a drowning family businessman clutching unto straws in the face of evident leadership failure.
We, in the repositioned PPA, are therefore appealing to Government at all levels, Government and all Information Managers, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Director of the Department of State Security, Operation Safe Haven and all Security Agencies in the State to ignore all entreaties to be part of Nanyah Daman’s futile public theatrics.
Signed:
Prince Daniel John Bok Chairman Plateau Publishers Association, PPA
Ambassador Nanpon Danjuma Sheni, the PIDAN President

Nde Chingdapba Ngop, the Madaki Ballang-Shipang and Chairman, Ngas Village Market
By Ezekiel Dontinna
It has become increasingly deliberate to again return pen to paper, following the massive turned out of people at the Ngas Village Market last Saturday.
It is also to refreshing the mindset of sons and daughters of Ngasland towards what primarily was to bring them together, share common values in love and unite for development of their people.
From left: Christian Biska James, Kitshiwe Gogwim Williams and Hon. Pius Yilchini
The essence of establishing such a market was to promote the rich cultural heritage by bringing close to town the practice of the old and educate younger generation.
Interestingly, apart from showcasing the Ngas culture and making the village economically viable, it turned out to be a centre of harmonious relationship among ethnic nationalities on the Plateau.
Chief Robert Taple, middle, in a handshake with Nde Chingdapba Ngop
Although, as always been the case during festive period where people travel, the market at some point scale high and steep for that reason, but the momentum this year came with is a testament to a reloaded plans and better things to happen.
Unlike the previous, the show of interest this time around really demonstrated how reinvigorated people feelings were after the long festive weeks last Saturday.
That initial spirit of love, unity and the continued promotion of the rich cultural heritage over time, truly came to play with an unprecedented crowd.
Earlier, traders thought they might likely returned home with their commodities because of how scanty the market was in the morning, but the unexpected happened.
People later trooped in within an hour or two as if a bell was rang or they had a meeting before coming. The most interesting part of it all was, how people kept coming even in the evenings to have a feel of the market.
The increasing viability of the Ngas Village Market and its ability to keep developing every week seems to be hope against hope and utterly confused many who could not sieve out what it was main for.
However, some prominent sons and daughters of Ngasland who, for the first time, came to witness and take a look at the beautifully designed traditional structures and attires were received by Nde Chingdapba Ngop, the Madaki Ballang-Shipang and Chairman, Ngas Village.
In fact, one could not identify or meet some who came in for the first time to get their feelings. The few we were able notice were Chief Robert Taple, the immediate past Chairman, Plateau State Local Government Commission, Kitshiwe Gogwim Williams, a System Expert residents in Netherlands, former Deputy Council Chairman of the old Pankshin, Hon. Pius Yilchini, Christian Biska James and others.
After going round to have a look at the beautifully designed buildings and setting of the market, Kitshiwe Gogwim Williams, who based in the Netherlands said, “having seen and witnessed this place today by myself, I feel it’s awesome, incredible.
“The way people come together, you know, it shows some kind of union-ship and that really blows me up a lot. I appreciate, you know, the effort that you guys have made so far in this place.
“I’ve seen all these pictures going on on social media and today it’s part of something to say I witnessed it myself. It is awesome, incredible and culturally rich. So I would say, kudos to you guys”, he expressed interest.
His Majesty, Nde Jika Golit, the Ngolong Ngas
Responding, the Management Committee Chairman of Ngas Village, Nde Chingdapba Ngop, the Madaki Ballang-Shipang, showered blessings on the young man who came all the way from Netherlands to have a feel of the Ngas Village and assured him of their prayers.
Nde Katkukkah Danjuma Gokum PhD, the National President of Ngas Development Association (NDA)
However, the Management Committee were left with no other option, but to allow people to at least, enjoy the little time they came share with their friends, because there no sign of them planning to leave the market any soon even as the day went darker with the chilly harsh weather of Jos.
