TUC Olaleye and NLC Ajaero

By Ezekiel Dontinna

Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Council and Trade Union Council, have unanimously called for the immediate passage of the Bill for the establishment of State Police to help complement efforts of existing security agencies.

This was the position of the two unions in a press statement signed and read by the State Chairmen NLC, Comrade Eugene Manji and that of the TUC, Comrade Kenneth Shammah, at the conference hall of NLC State Secretariat Jos, the State capital.

The statement states, “we wish to recommend the steps to be taken by all concern to guarantee the protection of lives and properties in Nigeria especially those areas under constant attacks:

“The National Assembly should in National interest pass the bill on State Policing. This we believe will add to the efforts being made by other security agencies.

“The President and Commander –In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria, should make priority the visitation to all attacked communities as a means of re-assurance for peace.

“The strong theming of Local vigilantes in the country permitting them to carry protective arms to compliment the efforts of other security agencies”, it stated.

The two unions also called for the return of all displaced communities to their ancestral  Lands and security should be provided in such areas to guarantee their safety by prioritising usage of intelligence gathering.

They, therefore, charged that, all credible security  information received should be treated with pro-activeness in order to prevent any attack planned because information was always on public domains whenever an attack was to take place.

The NLC and TUC leaders insisted that, since the killers were no where prepared to stop killing, they  recommended for speedy trials of those arrested in special courts so as to deliver justice to the needy.

The Unions, therefore, called for the total ban on open grazing and adopt the more acceptable cattle ranching as a deliberate measure to bring these killings to a stop.

He noted with great disapproval describing what happened in the state as premeditated vicious acts of genocide against the indigenous Christians populace by heartless, wicked and evil terrorists for very nefarious purposes.

“We frown at the situation where harmless, innocent children and women, in the day of the night, by faceless terrorists, armed with sophisticated weapons, will be defined as a communal misunderstanding or crisis.

From left: Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, the Plateau State CAN Chairman and the CAN Vice President, Rev. Dr. Stephen Baba Panya

Emphatically, let the whole world know that the communal misunderstanding or crisis is not the case on the Plateau. Let’s call a spade a spade. What is happening is premeditated vicious acts of genocide

“To say the least, these recent attacks indicate the highest level of inhumanity to humans expressed by terrorists. We convey our deepest condolences to each and everyone that is affected in one way or the other”, the President consoled.

He reassured them of CAN’s deepest concern and solidarity and that, they were not alone in these challenges, because God Almighty and the entire body of Christ was with them.

Ambassador Nanpon Danjuma Sheni, the PIDAN President

God favors the prepared mind that is paying attention. Life, in its infinite wisdom, does not throw treasures at the feet of the careless or the idle.

The hand of Providence often moves quietly, disguised as opportunity wrapped in the plain cloth of ordinary moments. It is not luck that lifts men and women to great heights; it is diligence and readiness.

It is the mind sharpened by study, disciplined by patience, and illuminated by purpose. A prepared mind sees what others miss. It hears the whisper of possibility in the clamor of everyday life.

It recognizes doors where others see only walls. When preparation meets opportunity, a miracle is born. The Lord rewards.

Good morning and have a blessed weekend.

We are tired of town hall meetings, engagement with Miyetti Allah, religious groups–PYC Veterans

Comrade Adamu Kevin Kesuwo, the Chairman of the Veterans PYC, addressing Journalists

By Ezekiel Dontinna

Team of Veterans of Plateau Youths Council (PYC), the highest decision making body of all youth groups in Plateau State, have frown at the old practice of organising town hall meetings, community peace engagement and talk show after any attack on citizens with Miyetti Allah and other religions groups.

This position came at the world press conference organised by Veterans on land grabbing and genocidal war on Plateau State, held in Jos, the State capital Thursday.

Addressing Journalists at the world press conference, the Chairman of Veterans, Comrade Adamu Kevin Kesuwo, said, “it is disheartening to note that the frequency and pattern of attacks have led to an ever-increasing fears and anxiety of a determined campaign to forcibly displace native communities and seize their ancestral lands.

“We are tired of organizing town hall meetings, community engagements and other talk shows with Miyetti Allah and other religious groups that always end up not yielding any expected results.

“It has become glaring that if we do not defend ourselves, no one will. If we do not rise, we will fall, again and again. What kind of country would have its citizens slaughtered in their sleep, at their homes and then respond with silence?

“We have not heard of a serious national outrage over the countless massacre on the Plateau. Unlike what is happening in Gaza and Ukraine, does it mean that Plateau people are not human beings? Or that Plateau state is not part of the world system?”, he questioned.

Kesuwo, again demanded to know why there has been no national outcry against what was happening in Plateau state from foreign governments, especially the United Nations and other reputable organisations as Nigerians were slaughtered like livestock.

Reacting to the call by the National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Prof Tukur Muhammed Baba, for the immediate declaration of state of emergency in Plateau State , the Chairman  condemned it in its strongest terms, describing it preferential, partial and bias call.

He, however, said, “it is on record that several states in Northern Nigeria such as Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto, Borno, Yobe among others have serious and incomparable security challenges compared to that of Plateau state, but such calls were not directed at them.

“We demand for the de-escalation of religious extremism, where the Christians and Muslims are given equal freedom to worship in any part of the country. In addition, state media coverages in the 36 states, should broadcast both Christian and Muslim programmes.

“Ethnic cleansing, mass murders and genocide have no place in a civilized society. It is time for us to identify the terrorists that indulge in this barbarity and eliminate every single one of them and seal our borders in order to keep them out of country”, the Veterans’ Chairman advocated.

This, according to the forum, his administration’s efforts to revamp Operation Rainbow, a state-owned security outfit, by recruiting vigilantes to enhance security in crisis-prone areas were notable.

The Plateau State Chairman of the NCFN said, “we also appreciate the security agencies for their dedication to controlling the situation. We urge President Bola Tinubu to redouble efforts in assisting Plateau State to tackle its security challenges”.

He added that , Governor Mutfwang’s successful advocacy for security interventions, would increased federal support and significantly enhance the state’s capacity to manage insecurity.

According to the Plateau State Chapter of NCFN, it has remained committed to collaborating with Governor Mutfwang’s administration and security agencies to promote peace and stability across the state.

Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief and regret. Brooding over them is incubating them into bigger monsters that hurt your tomorrow.

Learn from them and let them go and never repeat them in the future. Commit your life, your plans, your hopes, your dreams and your fears to God through prayer everyday.

In return you will have peace in your life. He who reflects too much about the past, will achieve little. The Lord said ” Go forward…..”

LASUED Champions Inclusive Education at 2nd Distinguished Lecture Series

By Ezekiel Dontinna

The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) solidified its position as a leader in inclusive teacher education by hosting its 2nd Distinguished Lecture Series on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The event, held at the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Multipurpose Hall on the Main Campus, Oto/Ijanikin, had the theme “Inclusive Teacher Preparation for People with Special Needs.”

This was contained in a press release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the University, and made available to the media.

It further stated that the insightful discourse was spearheaded by Guest Speaker, Professor Emeka Desmond Ozorji, who passionately advocated for the urgent integration of special needs education into mainstream teacher training curricula across Nigeria.

His address underscored the necessity of equipping all educators with the skills and understanding to effectively teach students with diverse learning needs.
In her opening remarks, LASUED Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, emphasized the growing importance of the Distinguished Lecture Series as a platform for crucial intellectual discussions within the university.

She highlighted that the chosen theme directly aligns with LASUED’s core mission and global educational priorities, including Sustainable Development Goal 4 and Nigeria’s National Policy on Education (2013).

Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye proudly stated, “We have moved beyond rhetoric to practice. At LASUED, we embrace strategies like Differentiated Instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), drawn from global best practices to ensure inclusive classrooms are not just ideals but realities.”

She further spotlighted the pivotal role of LASUED’s College of Specialised and Professional Education (COSPED) in driving the institution’s inclusive agenda.
The Vice-Chancellor affirmed that LASUED is committed to training teachers not only in pedagogy but also in empathy, awareness, and a comprehensive understanding of various special needs, including autism spectrum disorder and dyslexia.

Beyond academic initiatives, Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye emphasized LASUED’s deeply ingrained culture of non-discrimination, highlighting the significant contributions of both staff and students with disabilities within the university community.

“This inclusivity is not just policy-it is practice,” she asserted.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Professor Ozorji elaborated on the crucial need to embed disability awareness, content differentiation, and inclusive methodologies within mainstream teacher training programmes.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of these efforts, he proposed the establishment of a dedicated Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) at LASUED.

Professor Ozorji envisioned the CDS as the university’s central hub for inclusive education, driving student engagement, fostering social action, dismantling barriers, and promoting positive attitudinal shifts towards persons with disabilities.

He suggested that the Centre should run specialized programmes and be empowered to lead innovation, training, and research in special needs education.

In a call to action, Professor Ozorji urged LASUED to adopt a “zero-rejection policy” for students and staff with disabilities, setting a benchmark for genuine institutional inclusiveness across Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Attendees left the lecture feeling inspired and recognizing LASUED’s progressive approach as a potential model for inclusive teacher preparation throughout Africa.

The event not only raised crucial awareness but also served as a significant call to action for all stakeholders within the education ecosystem.

Through its unwavering commitment, ambitious vision, and concrete strategies, the Lagos State University of Education continues to spearhead the transformation of Nigeria’s education system into one that truly leaves no learner behind.
